We spent two delightful nights at this exceptional guesthouse. Gert and Jaco go far beyond the call of duty to make one feel welcome in what is effect their own home, a bespoke (but unpretentious) retreat mixing traditional architecture with stylish antiques, art, fabrics, rugs, eclectic furniture, and some wonderfully extravagant and over-sized objets d'art, all of which they have collected over many years. A steal at R2200 per room (for 2) B&B. Our suite had an outside shower, bathtub in the room and a small but well equipped kitchehette and dining area, and beautiful crockery and cutlery; even a small karoo gas hob with kettle. Every detail has been carefully thought out and executed. There was a private outside braai as well on the wide deck with what I'm sure is the best view in Barrydale. Dinner was excellent. Homemade tomato soup with a twist, duck breast with citrus and juniper berries, and apple crumble and coffee. Breakfasts were a feast of many options, notably the shakahuka with a base of the most delicious chopped pancetta. Thanks for a wonderful stay. Anyone coming to Barrydale should not miss out!
